For me it makes no difference whether I perform during a competition or a concert. The main goal is to transmit the ideas of composers, to reach the hearts of my listeners and to enjoy the music.

Sergey Tanin started to play the piano at the age of five, progressing to the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory to study with Irina Plotnikova. In 2019, he moved to Basel where he continued his studies with Claudio Martínez Mehner at the Musik-Akademie Basel.

Sergey has performed with leading symphony orchestras, including the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich under Christian Zacharias, the Musikkollegium Winterthur under Theodor Guschlbauer and the Bamberger Symphoniker under Jakub Hruša. He has given recitals in concert halls such as the Mariinsky Hall, Salle Molière Lyon, Salle Gaveau Paris, Tonhalle Zürich and the Great Halls of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory and St Petersburg Philharmonia. He has been guest at many international festivals, such as the Beethovenfest Bonn, the Kissinger Sommer, Levanto Music Festival, Musikdorf Ernen and the Swiss Alps Classics. Highlights of his 2022- 2023 season include debuts in Paris and Basel and chamber music collaborations with Michael Barenboim and Felix Renggli.

His debut CD with works of SchubertLiszt, Brahms and Prokofiev was released by Prospero Classical, with a Schumann CD to be released this year. Sergey Tanin is based in Basel and is co-founder of the festival musicaAndeer.
