Junyan Chen graduated with an ABRSM full scholarship, First-Class Honours and the Principle’s Award at the Royal Academy of Music, under the tutelage of Professor Joanna MacGregor. Now a Bicentenary scholar at the Royal Academy of Music, she is working towards her Master’s degree. Earlier studies were completed in the Middle School of Shanghai Conservatory under Professor Weiling Chen.

Junyan has played in prestigious venues such as the Wigmore Hall, KKL Lucerne, Brighton Dome, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Hall and Takatsuki Gendai Gekjio. She has played with the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra, Xin Zhu Symphony Orchestra and others, and has worked with conductors Edward Gardner and Zhang Liang and composers Eleanor Alberga and Mark-Anthony Turnage.

She has participated in masterclasses with musicians including Pascal Rogé, Thomas Kreuzberger, Paul Badura-Skoda, Christopher Elton, Tomas Vasary, Yevgeny Sudbin and Tamara Stefanovich. An enthusiast of contemporary music, Junyan worked with Hans Abrahamsen on his piano concerto with conductor Franck Ollu and the Manson Ensemble. She was also invited to take part in Eleanor Alberga’s festival ‘Arcadia’.

Her solo album, It’s Time, was released by Linn records in December 2022.
