Alexander Gadjiev: First Prize Winner National Tour 2022

Alexander Gadjiev

Alexander Gadjiev is the First Prize winner of the Sydney International Piano Competition (The Sydney). Awarded by an international jury, Gadjiev stole the show in this year’s competition, receiving half of all the prizes available to the finalists.

Gadjiev’s accolades were scattered across his 3 recitals. Prizes for his programming skills (best preliminary round recital), audience communication (best program presentation) and pianistic ability (best performance of a work by Liszt & romantic period & classical period) highlight the 26 year old’s well-rounded, irrefutable talent and artistic maturity.

The star quality Gadjiev has already shown gives just a glimpse of the shimmering experience that lies ahead for Australian audiences in October and November 2022. Alexander Gadjiev will astound audiences with his virtuosic skill and why he is the deserving winner of one of the world’s greatest competitions for the piano.

The tour will include performances across NSW, VIC, QLD, WA, ACT, SA and NT. More information and ticket release dates will be added here in due course.

More about Alexander

Alexander made his concert debut at the age of nine, giving his first solo recital a year later. Both his musical family and the eclectic culture of his city of origin Gorizia, a natural crossroads of peoples, cultures and languages, had a strong influence on his natural ability to absorb, process and rework different musical styles and languages.

Alexander was selected for the 2019 – 2021 BBC New Generation Artists Scheme, providing major opportunities for him in the UK and is also an ambassador for the 2025 European Capital of Culture.

Alexander received his Master’s degree at the Mozarteum of Salzburg, under the guidance of Pavel Gililov and his Konzertexamen in Berlin under Eldar Nebolsin. Alexander has performed in the major concert halls of Paris, Venice, Moscow and at esteemed piano festivals around the world.

Acclaimed by SBS as “one of the most promising pianists of the moment,” The Sydney is very proud to present Gadjiev as our newest laureate. The bar is set high for Gadjiev, with other laureates having significant impact on Australian audiences – we think of Andrey Gugnin’s 33-concert tour in 2017 and of Adelaide-based Konstantin Shamray who Australia now proudly calls one of its own.
